Perlas Pilipinas keeps Division A status in Fiba Women’s Asia Cup

Perlas Pilipinas remained in the elite Division A after defeating North Korea, 78-63, at the end of the 2017 Fiba Women’s Asia Cup Saturday in India.

Allana Lim showed the way with 16 points for the women’s national basketball squad, which registered its first and only win following four straight setbacks that nearly booted the Philippines out of Division A.

Analyn Almazan had 13 points and Cindy Resultay added 10 points and 10 rebounds as the cagebelles made 50 percent of their shots from the field that helped chalk up the win.

The Koreans, who were relegated to Division B following a winless stint, shot 34.4 percent despite sinking 10 three-pointers.

After absorbing an 87-53 drubbing at the hands of Chinese Taipei, the Filipinos came back with a vengeance against the North Koreans with 11 players contributing in offense.

Perlas coach Patrick Aquino said the Fiba Asia campaign definitely made his players better in their bid to capture the gold medal in the 29th Southeast Asian Games later this month in Kuala Lumpur.
