IOC member Mikaela C. Jaworski encouraged all NSAs in the Philippines to keep updated on and be knowledgeable of World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List. She explained, “The IOC fully supports the efforts of WADA to keep sports clean and drug free and we in the Philippines must do our share to our part. The firs step is, of course, awareness of what is not allowed. This needed so we can be proactive and to avoid inadvertent violations.”
The second point can compromise careers, a case in point being Maria Sharapova, the popular top ranked women’s tennis player who was penalized despite a plea that she did not know she was taking a drug that had been previously legal and was recently added.
Ms. Jaworski stressed, “We need to be aware and informed to prevent such violations so we are sending the January 1, 2016 Prohibited List to all NSAs with instructions to disseminate this to all stakeholders.”
